  • Three Carson City citizens were honored with medals after rescuing victims in two separate accidents—a New Year’s Day incident where two men freed occupants from a burning overturned car and a March 1 event where a man saved a neighbor from a gas explosion fire that could have caused many more injuries.  CarsonNow
  • The Nevada State Society of the DAR and their local chapters will host a re-dedication ceremony for the historic Washington Elm on April 25 at 10 a.m. on the Capitol grounds as part of America 250—events include color presentation, musical performance, proclamations by state and city officials, and a commemorative tree planting.  CarsonNow

CRIME NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Carson City Sheriff's Office released video footage of a fatal officer-involved shooting on April 17 in a downtown casino parking lot where deputies, after learning of a felony warrant for 35-year-old Alexander Allinger during a consensual encounter, pursued him on foot until he presented a handgun and shots were exchanged—Allinger was fatally shot and both deputies were placed on administrative leave as the investigation continues.  CarsonNow

  • Carson City officials lit two lights in the Statehouse cupola on Friday in the Attorney General’s courtyard to honor Paul Revere’s ride as part of the America250 national commemoration. America250 Nevada will host a six‑month series of events leading up to July’s semiquincentennial of the Declaration of Independence — a historic observance — to mark the nation’s founding.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Carson High senior Maximillian Alexander Bushey — this week’s Rotary Club Senior Spotlight honoree — leads his school choir and Future Farmers of America chapter; he serves as the 2024–25 chapter president and is set to be Nevada FFA state president next year while sharing his passion for farming.  The Nevada Appeal

  • The Sierra Nevada Forums in partnership with the AAUW Capital Branch and League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada will host a panel discussion on aging brain health at the Brewery Arts Center Performance Hall (511 W King St) on May 13, with doors opening at 5:30 p.m. and the program set to begin at 6 p.m.  CarsonNow

SPORTS NEWS

  • Carson High School graduates Kedre and Kailee Luschar led the No. 5 Oregon Ducks softball team, with Kedre posting a .466 average and Kailee nearly topping national stolen base counts — efforts that helped raise the team's record. Other local stars, including Carson alum Camryn Quilling and Douglas High School graduates Gabe Natividad, Jackson Davis, Niza Barton, Lilyann Lee, Mya Roberts, and Anna Northcutt, performed strongly in college softball, baseball, and track — showing the growing talent from our area.  The Record Courier
