COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department will host the Carson River Open House at the Community Center theater lobby on April 30 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.—the event will invite community input on updating the Carson River Master Plan with educational tables provided by partner agencies covering water quality, mercury, and flooding.  CarsonNow
  • This week Carson City and nearby areas offer many free and low-cost events—this includes a free skate today at the Carson Victory Rollers, family activities at the library and aquatic center, and a Father Daughter Dance on Friday at Carson High School. The schedule also features art classes, outdoor hikes, and the Virginia City Grand Prix running from April 25th to 27th.  CarsonNow
  • Carson City Moose and Elks Lodges are partnering to host a charity golf tournament at Eagle Valley Golf Club East Course on May 17—golfers may sign up as a foursome or individually to be paired, and the event will finish with an awards banquet at the Elks Lodge.  CarsonNow

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A motorcyclist died when his bike went off Geiger Grade+ at Cartwright Road on Saturday, April 19 after he failed to negotiate a curve at high speed, with the Nevada Highway Patrol confirming he was dead at the scene.  News4

CRIME NEWS

  • Carson City Sheriff's Office arrested several suspects over the weekend, including a 39-year-old man for felony domestic battery on Como Street, another for domestic battery by strangulation, a man for felony burglary and trespassing, and a driver for a third DUI offense — with others facing charges from driving with a revoked license to disorderly conduct.  CarsonNow

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Thursday, the Carson City Cultural Commission gave its annual update to the Board of Supervisors on art shows, music classes and public art projects like the 'For Stan' mosaic in Mills Park. Arts & Culture Director Anna Freeman said the update covered grant changes and a new signal box painting program (sponsored by local businesses) to boost art opportunities, while more teachers and volunteers are needed.  CarsonNow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Nevada OSHA announced that starting April 29, employers with more than 10 workers must conduct a job hazard analysis and create a written safety program with water, rest breaks and cooling methods to protect against heat illness. The regulation will not apply to climate-controlled areas but will require actions if systems fail — employers are encouraged to use free heat prevention training to comply.  FOX Reno
  • The Nevada DMV is offering walk-in appointments for Real ID transactions at its Reno and Carson City offices (available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 4 p.m. until May 15). Starting May 7, a Real ID will be required for boarding domestic commercial flights and entering secure federal buildings under the REAL ID Act.  News4
  • Governor Lombardo announced that Mike Dreitzer is the new chair of the Nevada Gaming Control Board as he will succeed Kirk Hendrick. Hendrick will resign on June 22—Dreitzer will begin his role on June 23.  News4
