COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After a 12-year pause, Nevada Day, Inc. revived its Wild West Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday at Livermore Sports Complex in Carson City when hundreds of children hunted over 5,000 candy-filled eggs—featuring tethered hot air balloon rides and a live DJ. Other egg hunts are scheduled across Carson City and at Washoe Lake State Park where the Easter Bunny will arrive at 12 p.m.—with food and drinks available as parking spots fill quickly.  CarsonNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Twenty Carson High FFA students attended the Nevada State FFA Convention and earned awards in events such as Horse Evaluation and Veterinary Science. Max Bushey was elected as the FFA State President and five students earned State FFA Degrees — honors that show the chapter's growing strength.  CarsonNow
  • Western Nevada College will hold two separate commencement ceremonies for the Class of 2025, with the Carson City event at 10 a.m. Monday, May 19 at Marv Teixeira Pavilion in Mills Park and the Fallon event at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 21 at Barkley Theatre in Oats Park Arts Center; both events will feature speeches by WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe and Foundation Board Trustee Lupe Ramirez (a 32-year education veteran now serving on the Carson City School District Board).  CarsonNow

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County commissioners debated the Muller Lane Parkway project and approved seeking eminent domain after work continued south of Buckeye Road while Park Ranch Holdings owner David Park agreed to negotiate—a split vote saw three commissioners in favor and two against. County Manager Jenifer Davidson said the county views eminent domain as a last resort and officials plan to address drainage concerns and upcoming deadlines—legal challenges and conditional FEMA reviews add to the complex process.  The Record Courier
  • Carson City officials announced road closures and lane restrictions for road and utility work scheduled April 21 to 27. 2nd Street between Carson and Curry will be closed to westbound traffic until June 30—Gentry Lane between Hudson and Snyder will close Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.—North Ormsby Boulevard will be closed to northbound traffic on Monday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Plaza Street will be closed Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Roop Street will operate with one lane Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Agencies including NDOT, Nevada State Police, Highway Patrol and the RTC of Washoe County remind drivers to slow down and obey posted work zone limits as major road work begins across the region in National Work Zone Awareness Week from April 21st–25th.
