  • Parade entry applications for the Nevada Day Parade are now open in Carson City—organizers urge businesses, schools, and community groups to apply early due to a 200-entry limit—and all floats must be decorated for judging; the parade will feature themed floats, marching bands, equestrian groups, and classic cars while a special coloring book with 25 illustrated pages is available at the Nevada Day Gift Shop and on Amazon.  News4

  • The Carson City Sheriff’s Office warned Monday that phone scammers are posing as law enforcement to claim unpaid fines and pressure locals into paying by gift cards, wire transfers or cryptocurrency (official officers never request payments by phone), so residents should hang up and call the Sheriff’s Office on their official number.  CarsonNow
  • Carson City's murder trial for Sierra Ceccarelli’s alleged killer was halted for the third time when his request to delay the case was denied— the Nevada Supreme Court will now hear his claim amid eight years of delays.  CarsonNow

  • The Wild Wild West Nevada Day Parade will take place on Nov. 1 in downtown Carson City—featuring themed floats, marching bands, equestrian groups, classic cars and lively entertainment—and will celebrate Nevada's history and heritage. Entry applications for up to 200 groups will open soon—organizers encourage early submissions—and a new Nevada Day Parade Coloring Book will be available at the Nevada Day Gift Shop.  CarsonNow

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Western Nevada College’s Carson City campus will host the free Enhancing Career Success seminar on Wednesday, April 16 at The Link — a one-hour interactive workshop led by Carson Tahoe Health’s Human Resources experts to help students, alumni and community members improve their résumés and interview skills.   • Western Nevada College announced that its College for Kids summer camps will soon begin at the Carson City campus, offering six weeks of activities for children ages 8 to 14. The program includes a multi-disciplinary sports camp in partnership with Skiing is Believing scheduled for June 23 to 27, July 14 to 18, July 21 to 25 and August 11 to 15—along with iLead camps on July 14 to 18 and July 21 to 25, both staffed by certified coaches.  CarsonNow

FINANCE NEWS

  • New IRS rules change the reporting requirements for Third Party Settlement Organizations such as Venmo, PayPal, eBay and Stubhub. Business transactions over $5,000 triggered a 1099-K in 2024 and require one for amounts above $2,500 in 2025—thresholds will drop to $600 in 2026—while personal sales remain exempt.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sonoma Park is closed from April 7th to April 25th for seasonal maintenance as city staff repair the turf and check irrigation issues. City workers use equipment daily (to aerify, overseed and fertilize the field) and (to evaluate and fix watering problems) to keep the area safe.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Assembly Speaker Steve Yeager introduced legislation on Monday that seeks to remove college degree requirements for most state jobs and count federal work experience as qualifying experience. The bill, AB547, aims to expand job opportunities by easing the transition for former federal workers — a proposal supported by assembly leadership.  News4
  • A pavement survey by Applied Pavement Technology shows that Carson City roads have worsened over the past two years, with local roads dropping from a PCI of 56 to 55 and regional roads from 74 to 69 — a trend that lags behind Douglas County's better-maintained streets. Transportation officials will present these findings at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the board room at 851 E. William St.—this update follows the November rejection of new road funding measures.  The Nevada Appeal
