  • Carson City Park Rangers are offering free outdoor programs in April, including a Pink Full Moon Hike on April 12 at 8:00PM at Centennial Park’s Wild Horse Trail—attendees must wear closed-toed shoes and minors must be accompanied by an adult. A Bird Walk on April 27 at 8:30AM at Carson River Park will also take place—participants need to register online and follow event guidelines.  CarsonNow

CULTURE NEWS

  • At its dinner meeting on April 17, the Carson City Leisure Hour Club will host Dr. Josh Bonde (director at the Nevada State Museum) to discuss his work on Nevada’s first uniquely identified dinosaur (a small, two-legged plant eater) Nevadadromeus schmitti. Founded in 1896, the club continues to hold events that help residents learn about Nevada’s past.  CarsonNow
  • The Carson City Historical Society and Brewery Arts Center will present an encore of Jed Block’s acclaimed lecture, Carson City: Then & Now, on Sunday, April 27 at 1:00 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom at 449 W. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Nevada Department of Corrections faces a $53 million gap from rising overtime costs due to staff shortages—legislators must find funds in the next three months before the new fiscal year begins on July 1, while a staffing study expected this summer will guide long-term changes.  CarsonNow
  • Carson City officials have issued a road report for April 7–13, 2025—drivers should expect closures to westbound 2nd Street until June 30 and lane restrictions on several streets during weekday mornings. The report notes affected roads include California at Industrial Park Drive, Center between Clearview and Alder, Ethel Way, Hudson Drive, northbound Carson near the mall, and Lompa Lane between Nye and Northridge.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Lawmakers introduced Assembly Bill 375, sponsored by Speaker Steve Yeager and Assemblymember Bert Gurr, to name Picon Punch as the state drink and allow cocktails-to-go in tamper-proof containers with a fee of up to 50 cents per drink to support DUI programs. The bill mixes a move to honor Nevada’s history with new take-out alcohol rules that let local governments add extra limits—lawmakers plan to adjust the tax details amid industry concerns.  The Nevada Appeal

  • Carson City will host a free Senior Celebration Health & Wellness Fair at Casino Fandango on May 8 from 8 a.m. to noon, where over 80 vendors will offer health and lifestyle services & raffle prizes with on-site vaccinations for older adults.  CarsonNow
