Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 4th of April.
Good morning, Carson City.
Carson City law enforcement is seeking information on a larceny at Sportsman’s Warehouse on Wednesday – one suspect wore a grey jacket, white shirt, blue jeans and white On Cloud shoes while a second suspect wore a grey beanie, brown puffer jacket, black pants and black shoes while carrying a light brown backpack as both left on foot.
Today, Carson High School honored student Nicole Madsen for her resilience and dedication—she plans to attend cosmetology school, start her own business, and received a $50 scholarship from Carson Tahoe Health at the Rotary Club of Carson City's weekly meeting.
Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto is backing a bill that will let federal law enforcement look into money laundering with cryptocurrency and digital assets.
The bill—reintroduced with Sen. Chuck Grassley—will change the law that does not cover unlicensed money transmitters.
Carson City Board of Supervisors acted on Thursday by voting 4‑1 to support a restoration district bill, approving a measure to set aside tax sale funds for a new technology fund, and moving to limit sales of disposable plastic bottles in the Lake Tahoe area.
They also approved a wildfire defense grant for projects starting in 2026, a new bargaining agreement for sheriff’s lieutenants and captains, and an ordinance against unauthorized sleeping that is in effect today—steps that will affect building projects, public safety, and city funds.
A local mother and her 16-year-old son on the autism spectrum faced hard truths when he asked why he could not get his driver's license (a sign of the limited services available for developmental disabilities in Nevada), which adds to concerns over the state's support for young people. Local nonprofits (Family Support Council and Horizons of Hope) and Carson Tahoe Hospital’s Healing Our Kids Crusade are working to boost mental and behavioral health services in rural areas.
