- ➤ A Nevada Legislature bill will expand paid family leave for public and private workers. The bill will lower the eligibility requirement to 90 days, extend leave to 12 weeks, adjust wage compensation based on earnings, and be heard Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.—at an Assembly Commerce and Labor Committee meeting. - ➤ On Wednesday, the Nevada Legislature Assembly Select Committee on End-Of-Life Care heard a bill introduced by Assemblyman Joe Dalia that would legalize physician-assisted suicide by letting doctors or advanced practice nurses prescribe medication to end the lives of terminally ill patients who are over 18 and mentally capable. The bill will move to a work session for a possible committee vote soon—Dalia recalled his own father's painful death from COPD—adding a personal perspective to the debate. News4
- ➤ After more than 2 million gallons of raw sewage spilled into the Truckee River in 2022 and 2023 without notification, state Senator Ira Hansen introduced Senate Bill 276 to require that downstream users be alerted. Community leader Chairman Steven Wadsworth expressed clear frustration with city officials—who relied on builders for reporting—and the Nevada Department of Environmental Protection has begun an investigation to assess environmental impacts and potential fines. - ➤ Nevada Health Centers Mobile Dental Services will provide dental exams, x-rays, extractions, fillings, cleanings, sealants, restorative services and oral health education to children and young adults up to age 21 with or without insurance. The service will be at Carson High School on April 7th from 1—5 p.m. and April 8th from 8 a.m.—5 p.m., and at Empire Elementary on April 9th—10th from 8 a.m.—5 p.m. and on April 11th from 8 a.m.—noon. - ➤ Douglas High teams showed strong play this weekend—its softball team won four of five games at the Reed tournament with key efforts from Cam McLelland, its baseball team beat North Valleys 8 to 4 and inducted a new Hall of Fame class, and its track squad finished third among 25 teams at the Reno Running Company Invitational. The schools will face softball contests on Tuesday and Thursday and play a baseball game in Galena on Tuesday before another home game on Thursday. The Record Courier
