GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Caribbean Towing, LLC filed an application for a CPCN license to provide consent-only tow car services in Nevada—and interested parties may file petitions to intervene by April 28, 2025—according to a notice issued by the Nevada Transportation Authority.  The Nevada Appeal
  • NV Energy filed a joint application with the Public Utilities Commission on March 14, 2025 to seek approval for a $55,060,160.27 cost recovery related to its 2024 Natural Disaster Protection Plan. The Commission scheduled a prehearing conference for April 21 at 11:00 a.m. (interested parties may file comments by April 16 and email for an access code by April 17).  The Record Courier
  • A legal notice announced an online sale of personal property on storagetreasures.com starting April 11th at 9 a.m. and ending April 21th at 9 a.m. — the sale includes boxes, furniture and household items from Unit 275 of Bobbi Rodriquez located at 5874 Sheep Drive, Carson City.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Preliminary data show Nevada recorded 71 traffic fatalities in the first two months—up from 61 a year ago—with Carson City reporting one fatal crash on February 24. The state's Office of Traffic Safety has funded a distracted driving campaign—running April 1-19—to coordinate extra patrols amid slick roads from rain and snow.  The Nevada Appeal
  • The Carson City Fire Department announced that open burn season began April 1 and will run through May 31—dependent on permit status and daily weather conditions—with permits now available online as walk-in requests are no longer accepted.  The Nevada Appeal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Douglas High School athletes had a strong weekend at the Reed event as the softball team won four of five games with key wins over Chico, Reno and Dayton despite a loss to Reed, while the baseball team won 8-4 over North Valleys and inducted its Hall of Fame class. The girls track team placed third overall with strong individual performances and the boys finished 14th.  The Nevada Appeal
  • The Greenwave boys golf team started strong this spring—Fallon finished three strokes behind Elko in the Dayton tournament—and then won the Fernley event with a team score of 300. They beat Elko, South Tahoe, and Truckee, who scored 315, 318, and 323 respectively.  The Nevada Appeal
