BUSINESS NEWS

  • Maxine Holland rebranded the former Mayer Family Wines as Cellar 8 Wine Bar in downtown Carson City. The women-run bar—located at 408 N. Carson St across from the Nugget—will offer wine, tequila, and whiskey now and plans to add a coffee shop and tapas menu soon with special events starting April 9.  The Nevada Appeal

CRIME NEWS

  • On March 26, officers from the Carson City Sheriff’s Office (assisted by the U.S. Marshals Service and Nevada DPS) reviewed 163 registered sex offenders and arrested five men for alleged registration violations; two cases were referred to federal investigators and nine offenders were found not in compliance (further actions are pending).  The Nevada Appeal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sierra Lutheran High School will complete its expansion this spring with a new multipurpose hall and academic center featuring rooms with augmented reality technology and flexible spaces to support student learning—expected to boost enrollment by about 100 students. The project includes an exterior electric cross honoring Pastor Julias 'Juls' Clausen—marking a new chapter for the school.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Carson City's roads will face closures and lane restrictions from March 31 to April 6 due to road and utility work. The report notes that 2nd Street is closed to westbound traffic (through June 30) and Center and Plaza Streets are closed (Monday-Friday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.), with lane reductions scheduled on 10th Street, Clearview Drive, Highway 395, Lompa Lane, Old Clear Creek Road, Stewart Street and Washington Street.  The Nevada Appeal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Douglas High athletics had a busy weekend as the girls track team scored 115 points at the Elite 8 Invitational at Bishop Manogue — finishing just behind Spanish Springs — while the softball team won three of five games in Las Vegas. The baseball team beat Esperanza 10 to 5 in Anaheim, and both sports will play upcoming league contests — the softball squad will face Chico, Reno, and Dayton Friday while the baseball team hosts Galena Tuesday and travels to Damonte Ranch Thursday —.  The Record Courier
  • After a 5 to 1 win on Wednesday, the Tahoe Knight Monsters were back at home this weekend for three games against the Idaho Steelheads as part of a four-game series+ they swept two recent road series. The team played on Friday and Saturday and is scheduled to play today+ they hope to secure a postseason berth in the Mountain Division.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Douglas High baseball won a 7 to 4 game over Galena on Tuesday after trailing 4 to 0 until Jackson Ovard hit a grand slam — the Tigers later added two runs in the sixth inning. North Valleys beat Dayton 9 to 3 and Reno High defeated Carson 15 to 0 on Tuesday while track events at the Elks Invitational saw Sierra Lutheran and Dayton athletes set personal records.  The Record Courier
