CULTURE NEWS

  • Joey Cape, frontman of Lagwagon, will perform solo on Saturday, March 28 at 7 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center’s Performance Hall; he is excited to play for a new Carson City crowd and reconnect with his childhood hometown.  The Nevada Appeal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Carson High School senior Tyler Silsby has excelled in academics, sports, and community service through his CTE civil engineering pathway, football and golf teams, and volunteer work at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School. The Rotary Club of Carson City will honor him at their weekly Senior Spotlight meeting.  The Nevada Appeal
  • On March 3 and 4, students at Veritas Preparatory School participated in their annual Speech Meet, delivering memorized speeches to boost public speaking skills. Awards were given to winners in each grade (Kitana Ramirez won first in seventh/eighth).  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Carson City's 150th Army Guard unit is set to deploy to the Middle East in the next 30 to 60 days to support ongoing operations, as confirmed by Nevada National Guard Maj. Gen. Rodger Waters.  FOX Reno

SPORTS NEWS

  • At Oasis Academy, the softball team swept three games against North Tahoe while the baseball squad suffered losses; the team hosted Sierra Lutheran on Tuesday and will play a doubleheader in Carson City on Saturday before heading to Yerington on March 31.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson High track teams finished seventh at the Bishop Manogue event Saturday; the softball team had wins and losses during a Las Vegas tournament, and the baseball team lost two road games in California. Carson will host Bishop Manogue on March 31.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Sierra Lutheran High School's new softball team is off to an 8-1 start, sweeping West Wendover and North Tahoe and winning two-of-three against Incline on the weekend. Coach Candice Harris praised the girls' strong drive as they prepare for a three-game series at Oasis Academy beginning Tuesday.  The Record Courier
  • Douglas High School athletes excelled during last Saturday’s John Barsanti Farmers Insurance Invite at Bishop Manogue, as Krystle Dixon won the 800-meter run in 2:34.47 and team members earned strong finishes while softball and baseball teams faced tough contests with upcoming matches on Mar. 31.  The Record Courier
