  • Carson City Juvenile Services will host Power of Parents Night — presented by MADD — to help parents of middle and high schoolers talk about the dangers of underage drinking and marijuana use; the Spanish session will be on Tuesday, March 25th from 6 to 7 p.m. at La Tapatia, 200 E. Winnie Lane, and the English session will be on Thursday, March 27th from 6 to 7 p.m. inside the Carson City Sheriff’s Office Ormsby Room at 911 E. Musser Street.  CarsonNow
  • U.S. Army Corporal Dean Poppenga served lunch with the Nutrition Services team at Fritsch Elementary in Carson City last week to thank students for the Christmas cards sent while he was deployed to Camp Buehring in Kuwait. Poppenga (a Carson High graduate whose mother is the school kitchen manager) taped the cards at his crew shack to share joy with fellow soldiers.  CarsonNow
  • Carson City is rolling out a new series of arts and rec programs to help toddlers and young children build motor skills and creativity. Soccer Tots will run from April 1 to May 6 at the MAC building, and aquatic classes, gymnastics, dance lessons and an underwater egg hunt on April 19 will offer families more ways for little ones to learn and play—all in a safe, fun environment.  CarsonNow
  • Carson City Chamber of Commerce Leadership Institute Class of 2025 is rebuilding Carson High School’s stadium gates to boost school spirit and visitor experience — with demolition underway and over $130,000 in donations received — but the project still needs an additional $10,000 to install security window shutters and a new flagpole.  CarsonNow

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Officials with the Natural Resource Conservation Service said that Lahontan Reservoir west of the dam held over 200,000 acre-feet of water—an increase of 27,000 AF since Feb. 1—reflecting above-normal storage for early March. Hydrologist Jeff Anderson noted that promising March 1 snowpack readings from the eastern Sierra Nevada had led to forecasts of additional winter storms through mid-March.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The State Public Works Division invites bids for the Boiler Plant Renovation project at NNCC Regional Medical Facility on 1721 Snyder Avenue in Carson City with the bid opening on April 16 at 11:00 a.m.—a mandatory pre-bid meeting is scheduled on April 2 at 9:00 a.m.—bidders must be pre-qualified and complete vendor registration.  The Nevada Appeal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nevada Health Centers launched a mobile medical unit to offer primary care appointments for children and adults; Carol Alley leads the staff providing full exams, well-child care, sick visits, immunizations, prescriptions, and lab tests for established patients. The unit will be at Silver Springs Food Pantry from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today — and it will serve Sierra Nevada Health Center in Carson City from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.  The Nevada Appeal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Douglas High School baseball will induct its 2025 Hall of Fame class on March 29 when the Tigers host North Valleys at 11 a.m., with a ceremony held—between games—to honor coach Hal Wheeler and induct players Brady Ovard, Kaleb Foster and Jon Storke. This ceremony will rename the Hall of Fame after Wheeler, the winningest coach in team history.  The Nevada Appeal
