Good morning, Carson City. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 18th of March.

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sharon Rosse, director of the Capital City Arts Initiative, will retire on Oct. 1 — prompting the nonprofit to close after 22 years of supporting local contemporary art. The organization held 186 exhibitions — sharing essays and videos that enriched Carson City's meeting spaces.  The Nevada Appeal

FINANCE NEWS

  • Kelly Bullis, a local CPA, explained that most taxpayers may now use a large standard deduction of 14,600 for singles and 29,200 for joint filers rather than tracking itemized expenses for costs like mortgage interest and medical expenses (which now face stricter limits). He said these tax law changes could affect filing choices in coming years.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hundreds of high school lacrosse players gathered at the legislature on Monday to show support for Senate Bill 305, a proposal to add lacrosse as a state-sanctioned sport with a Pipeline Infrastructure Fund for resources. The measure, opposed by the NIAA—concerned about its process and funding—will move to a Senate Committee on Education work session before heading to senate and assembly votes.  News4
  • Carson City supervisors will consider a new ordinance that strengthens prohibitions on sleeping and camping in unauthorized public spaces at 8:30 a.m. Thursday in the community center boardroom at 851 E. William St. The ordinance details procedures for removing personal property from illegal encampments and follows a federal ruling in Grants Pass—staff say it updates local penalties to align with current legal standards.  The Nevada Appeal
