COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Tickets are available for the Carson City Father-Daughter Ball on April 25th, 2025 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Carson High School. The three-hour event—featuring dancing, Disney characters, snacks and professional photo opportunities—and ticket pricing details—$50 per couple and $15 for each additional daughter—will benefit the school’s Leadership, FBLA and Photography programs.  CarsonNow

CRIME NEWS

  • Kristi Haworth, a former Carson care facility employee, was arrested Friday for elder abuse after video footage showed her hitting an 83-year-old resident at a memory care facility—she now faces charges of abuse of an elderly person, criminal neglect and battery—her bail is set at $5,000.  The Nevada Appeal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Western Nevada College’s Nursing Program added three new faculty members for the 2024-25 school year—Amber Price, who brings more than 24 years of experience, Erika Holiday, a doctorate recipient from Johns Hopkins University, and Alyshia Fairbanks, a longtime Fallon resident and former surgical nurse— to teach at the Fallon campus. Fairbanks will work full-time to bridge the gap between WNC campuses for pre-nursing and nursing students.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Carson City residents will face multiple road closures and lane restrictions from March 17 to 23 due to road and utility work—2nd Street between Carson and Curry will be closed to westbound traffic until June 30 while Center Drive and Gentry Lane are closed during peak weekday hours—with additional streets like 10th and Curry operating with reduced lanes.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson City Airport Authority has posted a bid for a 50-year lease of 2.48 acres along College Parkway that may include a restaurant if FAA gives no objections—bids close 5 p.m. April 10. The board will review proposals in a meeting on April 16.  The Nevada Appeal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Carson City Boxing Club coaches and volunteers recently participated in Youth Suicide Prevention 101 training provided by the Nevada Office of Suicide Prevention in collaboration with ProjectSTAY—aimed at encouraging nearly 95% of coaching staff to complete mental health training since such measures are not yet required by state or NIAA.  CarsonNow

SPORTS NEWS

  • Carson High School softball begins its season under first-year head coach Ellise McGowan, a 2013 alumna who coached the JV team last season and replaces Scott Vickrey, who ended 2024 with a 7-21 record. McGowan said the team has the talent but needs to build more confidence to boost hitting and overall play in 2025 — as she focuses on strengthening the middle of the lineup.  The Nevada Appeal
