EDUCATION NEWS

  • Five Carson City elementary schools earned Diamond Recognition for strong academic and behavior support practices under the MTSS program for the 2024-25 school year when they were honored at a state conference held Feb. 3-5 at the University of Nevada, Reno.  The Nevada Appeal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Division of Forestry saw a leadership change after Kacey KC left after more than 20 years to head Oregon’s forestry department, and Ryan Shane began serving as acting state forester on Feb. 23.  News4
  • The Nevada Division of Social Services announced that starting March 1, over 44,000 SNAP recipients without dependents — ABAWDs — must meet new work requirements of 20 hours weekly or approved activities. DSS offers volunteer opportunities and job programs to help residents regain eligibility.  FOX Reno
  • Douglas County has stocked sandbag locations as rain from a weak atmospheric river is arriving today, and officials remind residents to bring shovels since low drainage areas may face minor flooding (5 percent chance along the West Fork of the Carson River in Carson Valley).  The Record Courier

  • Carson High School bowlers won the High Desert Interscholastic Bowling Program championship after a 10-1 season following a four-week playoff run.
