  • The Stewart Indian School Cultural Center and Museum preserves Native American history with archival items that document traditions—efforts include digitizing collections and planning upgrades to expand educational programming and heritage exhibits to honor cultural ties.  The Nevada Appeal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Oasis Academy senior Emma Papada reflected on her school years filled with community, engaging classes, and a strong girls' golf team, as she readies for graduation in May. She will pursue college to study teaching or medicine.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson High senior Xavier Coberly was featured by the Rotary Club for his strong grades and volunteer work at the Boys and Girls Club. He will study finance at UNR and wants to help others learn to manage money.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson High School announced its 2026 Winterfest candidates and charity event on Jan. 30 through an assembly featuring teachers who shaved parts of their hair. Underclassmen will crown their leader Friday, Feb. 6 and seniors will hold their coronation Saturday, Feb. 7 (both in Senator Square).  The Nevada Appeal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A GPS-collared wolf from Truckee entered Nevada's remote high-elevation Sierra Nevada north of Lake Tahoe and is currently moving through the Carson Range, NDOW said Monday morning; California Department of Fish and Wildlife is tracking the animal + officials advise residents to supervise pets closely.  News4

  • At a Jan. 29 State of the Counties address in Carson City, county officials said falling tax revenues will not slow key projects to improve infrastructure and economic growth. They outlined plans for a $67 million justice complex, retail expansion in Lyon, and Carson City budget moves to support development.  The Record Courier
  • Anita Pepper from the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety joined Chris Murphy for road safety reminders ahead of Big Game parties, urging drivers to stay alert + plan safe travel as traffic is expected to increase.  FOX Reno

SPORTS NEWS

  • Douglas High boys basketball clinched a postseason berth with a 66 to 29 win over Galena Tuesday as the team started strong with a 13 to 0 run. The Tigers will host Carson Friday for Senior Night as they push for the No. 2 seed in the league.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Bishop Manogue beat Douglas High on Friday night as the boys fell 73-46 and the girls lost 75-35 after early leads, and Douglas now is set to close its regular season with home games against Galena on Tuesday and Carson on Friday.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson High School boys basketball finished their season sweep with a 58-52 win over the Galena Grizzlies Friday night, while the girls lost 54-29 to Galena. Sierra Lutheran teams fell in league games, and Dayton boys secured wins over Elko and Spring Creek as the season concluded.  The Nevada Appeal
  • Carson High School boys basketball shows promise this winter as sophomores Gabe Borst and Tre'Von Reddick lead the team with nearly 18 and 12 points per game respectively. Their strong chemistry at Morse Burley Gym boosts hopes for a return to winning seasons.  The Nevada Appeal
