About this event

A different type of setting for practitioners to meet in!

This evening session will start with a short bit of standing qigong movements, but then we'll take our seats and share in seated meditation together, interspersed with readings that may give us some helpful insight.

This peer-led reading group will anchor us in two of the oldest texts in the Daoist canon, with a bit of ninth century poetry to get us started. I'll try to set us up with the right tools to better understand (知) the perspectives presented, and highly encourage sharing our thoughts, reactions, and feelings. Discussion is the best part of reading in a group!

The Nei Ye is the oldest and most significant text in terms of what it is to actually practice. We'll introduce some key concepts and terms, and read some of the verses there. It serves as almost a manual on how to meditate.

The Zhuangzi is my personal favorite facet of Daoist thought. Ziporyn's a helpful translator, and with a little bit of modern contextualization, I think the short stories from the Zhuangzi point at aspects of life in a funny way.

We'll meet twice in this series this fall, both Wednesday nights from 5-6:30pm, November 18th and December 16th.

RSVPs would be helpful in preparing materials!
